3 Reasons Why You Will Fall in Love with Zurich

3 Reasons Why You Will Fall in Love with Zurich

Half-immigrant, half-Swiss, I learned to love the beautiful aspects of both, légère, southern countries as well as organized and a little stiff appearing places like tiny Switzerland. For many people, Switzerland may not be the most attractive place to visit, first and foremost because of its price level… However, if you ever have the chance to visit Zurich, these are the reasons why you will absolutely fall in love with this city:

No. 1: A City for Notorious Perfectionst or Extremely Visual People

Falling under both categories I’m aware of the fact that I will never find another city, where there is nothing that disturbs the eye. You know what I’m talking about, those scarce and therefore more-than-full bins around the city or filthy metro lines and trams. In Zurich, you won’t find any of it. No litter bin that’s too full, no brown leaves lying on the floor for more than two days and definitely no buildings that seem to fall apart any second. I’m being honest with you, Zurich looks like a town out of children’s book, super clean and organized.

No. 2: Small, but Impressive

Yes, Zurich is walking-distance city. Practically, you can reach any point in the city within half an hour by foot. I find it comparable to Florence in that regard (PS: I’ve written a blogpost about Florence too, click here). And if you can’t or don’t want to reach somewhere by foot, our public transport is one of the most elaborate public transport systems I’ve ever seen and it’s always on time. What else? Another nice thing about small cities, is that you can get to know it in no time. Still, Zurich isn’t boring nor monotone, its very international and there’s always something to do. By the way, the gastronomic scene is amazing, too. From Vietnamese over Lebanese and classic French, Zurich’s restaurants offer a very high standard. Moreover, I feel that the smaller a city, the less stressed it is, which we all like, don’t we?

No.3: The Lake

Okay, I guess anyone living in a place close or at the sea, won’t understand this argument. Coming from beautiful Antalya, I know what it’s like to miss the sea. Still, the lake in Zurich is truly beautiful and simply different. During summer, which is probably the nicest time to visit Zurich anyways, the lake transfers to a melting pot of all social and sportive activities. We like to spend our after-work or -school time at the lake, enjoying a cool beer (or any other drink, because I actually don’t like beer) and having a barbecue with traditional Swiss sausages.
