Keep it Simple – A Guide to Minimal Outfits
Tip No. 1: The Details Are Not the Details, They Make the Design
Tip No. 2: Instead of Colours and Prints, Rely on Fabrics and Shapes!
This is really a crucial, since minimalistic outfits can look a little boring pretty quickly. Anyone can wear a skirt and a sweater, and thats fine. However, picking an outfit that is simple and effortless, yet cool and stylish at the same time is a tiny little bit more complex than many of you might think. A key rule of mine therefore is to never wear the same fabric in an outfit twice. Don’t wear a knitted sweater with a knitted scarf. Don’t wear leather on leather. Don’t wear jeans on jeans. I know, we’ve all seen those super cool Levis or Guess ads wear cool Biker and Cowboy girls totally pull such looks, yet, I rarely saw a successful total jeans look on the streets. Let’s say it is simply easier to mix different fabrics, because it accentuates the individual pieces and adds dimension to a look. The same holds for shapes, wear an oversized sweater with a skinny jeans and combine culottes with a bodysuit to keep things interesting!
Tip No. 3: Know What Flatters You and What Does Not…
Speaking of shapes, cuts and sizes, there’s one rule that holds for any fashion guide. Be aware of your physique and make the most of it! Speaking of myself, I have an hour-glass figure, carrying most of my weight on my thighs, perfect for dresses and skirts! Unfortunately though, I am not very tall and there’s a list of things that I have to turn my back on because they were made for girls who are a lot taller than me. Keeping that in mind, I try to go for clothes that accentuate my waist and make me look a little taller. One trick to achieve that is to wear one color from the waist downwards, which I do by wearing a this black high-waist skirt, black tights and black ankle booties.
